An Ethiopian court trying two anti-poverty activists for commiting an alleged crime of “outrage against the constitution and the constitutional order” have adjourned their trial after hearing their arguments. Proceedings will resume on October 8, when the court will give judgment.

The agenda will give Daniel Bekele, the policy manager of ActionAid Ethiopia, and Netsanet Demissie, general manager of the Organization for Social Justice in Ethiopia, two more months in prison while the court takes its annual recess.

ActionAid England Executive DIrector Richard Miller explains that Bekele and Demissie were detained in November, 2005, along with recently released opposition political leaders for organizing anti-poverty awareness groups and engaging in what he calls legal political monitoring activities.(More...)
